Celebrating the 30th Anniversary

The Georgetown Fire Department will kick off the festivities on Thursday evening, October 1st, with the 8th annual Fireman’s Chili Cook-off. Join in the fun and sample many different chili’s. A great family night out for four under $20. Proceeds go to Toys for Tots for Georgetown/Scott County.
The Festival of the Horse will take place on the streets of downtown Georgetown October 2-4, 2009. The Annual event will celebrate its’ 30th anniversary in downtown this fall. The Festival of the Horse has promoted Scott County’s horse heritage, the downtown community and the interaction between the two for the past 29 years. Family oriented activities and entertainment are featured. This signature Georgetown event attracts visitors from throughout the region and has become a beloved event for our local citizens.
Many of the components that have become so traditional to the festival will return. Friday highlights include the Colt and Filly Children’s Parade, the Midway Carnival, live entertainment, and of course, those wonderful food vendors! Friday evening attendance swells to over 18,000 and has become the traditional night for local folks to gather, visit, and swap tales of the adventures they’ve had over the past year. Saturday features a 5K run, horse farm tour, YMCA cornhole tourney, horse games, experience the horse, the Equine Trade Fair, basketball and tennis tournaments, street performers, more great food and live entertainment and the Grand Horse Parade. Sunday winds down the weekend with a pet parade, blessing of the animals, horse show, street performers, and additional activities and entertainment. Estimated attendance - 30,000.
All events are free. Downtown Georgetown. Friday noon-10 p.m.; Saturday 8 a.m.-10 p.m.; Sunday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
