September 8, 2016 – Festival Kick-Off with the
Fireman’s Chili Cook-Off
September 9-11, 2016 – Festival of the Horse
The Georgetown Fire Department will kick off the festivities on Thursday evening, September 8th, 2016 with the 16th annual Fireman’s Chili Cook-off. Join in the fun and sample many different chilies. A great family night out for four around $20! Proceeds go to Toys for Tots for Georgetown/Scott County.
The Festival of the Horse will take place on the streets of downtown Georgetown September 9-11, 2016. The Annual event will celebrate its 36th anniversary in downtown this fall. The Festival of the Horse has promoted Scott County’s horse heritage, the downtown community and the interaction between the two for the past 36 years. Family oriented activities and entertainment are featured. This signature Georgetown event attracts visitors from throughout the region and has become a beloved event for our local citizens.
Many of the components that have become so traditional to the festival will return. Friday highlights include the Republic Bank Colt and Filly Review Parade, live entertainment, displays, arts & crafts, and of course, those wonderful food vendors! Friday evening has become the traditional night for local folks to gather, visit, and swap tales of the adventures they’ve had over the past year. Saturday features the Toyota Grand Parade of Horses, Holly Williamson’s Bomb Proofing Clinic, petting zoo, pony rides, Kid Zone, great food and live entertainment. The petting zoo, pony rides, and Kid Zone will be at Royal Spring Park. Sunday winds down the weekend with the Scott County Humane Society’s Pet Parade, blessing of the animals, horse show, and additional activities and entertainment.
All events are free. Downtown Georgetown. Friday 4 p.m.- 10 p.m.; Saturday 11 a.m.10 p.m.; Sunday 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
