2011 Festival of the Horse Grand Marshall - Michael Blowen - President of Old Friends Farm for Retired Thoroughbreds
March 14, 2011
Dear Horse Enthusiast,
The Georgetown/Scott County community will be celebrating the 31st anniversary of the Festival of the Horse in 2011. The Georgetown Woman’s Club will continue to be coordinators of the Festival of the Horse Grand Parade. The Neuville’s will again organize the Festival Horse Show, Marie Tomacelli will present “Experience the Horse/Horse Games.” We are proud to announce Historic Georgetown, Inc. Main Street Program will be the official host of the Festival.
This years Festival of the Horse Grand Marshall is Michael Blowen, President of Old Friends Farm for Retired Thoroughbreds. Old Friends is the only thoroughbred rescue/retirement facility that accepts stallions. Based in Georgetown, Ky., Old Friends has begun receiving visitors. They are hosting two to five tours daily, and while their guests come to visit a few ex-racehorses, they leave having been touched by the heart of a Thoroughbred hero. Visit their website at: www.oldfriendsequine.org
The Festival would like you to not only consider participating in this year’s Grand Parade but also Experience the Horse/Horse Games on Saturday morning and afternoon and Sunday’s Horse Show. You may sign up for the Horse Show and Experience the Horse/Horse Games the day of the event. We have enclosed the registration form for the Grand Parade to be returned by September 16, 2011. Once we receive your Parade registration, we will send a confirmation letter. Please have your friends who would like to participate, call Lori Saunders at 502-316-0846 or lorisaunders@bellsouth.net or Laura Green at 502-863-5424, Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m., for additional copies.
On Saturday, October 6, 2012 the Georgetown Woman’s Club will hold the annual Toyota Grand Parade featuring an all horse revue. The parade includes saddled horses with riders, drill teams and horse-drawn vehicles. We will continue the Parade of Breeds as an educational part of the parade. The Parade coordinators will also send: a place to park your trailer, a line-up guide, judging criteria and miscellaneous information that will help make the parade a fun and safe event. If you have any questions, please call Lori Saunders at 502-316-0846 or Laura Green at 559-338-2633. FYI: Due to numerous complaints we will not allow handouts of any kind this year including: candy, beads, ribbons, booklet, pamphlets or promotional materials. NO EXCEPTIONS! You will be pulled from the parade!
All participants in the parade must be preregistered. Please include one copy of your negative coggins papers with your registration(s). State inspectors also want a health certificate. If you are out-of-state, the state agriculture department requires a 30-day health certificate or passport. Because of the unpredictable nature of a horse events, we have also included in this packet, a waiver of liability, exempting the Festival and its coordinators from any lawsuits resulting in injury. All participants must have this signed and included with their applications. Please note these items are also needed if you plan to participate in Experience the Horse/Horse Games on Saturday or the Horse Show on Sunday.
Thank you for your support!
