Dear Horse Enthusiast,
The Georgetown/Scott County community will be celebrating the 29th anniversary of the Festival of the Horse in 2008. The Georgetown Woman’s Club is proud to announce that they are the new co-ordinators of the Festival of the Horse Grande Parade. The Neuville’s will again organize the Festival of the Horse Horse Show and Sheri Hennig will manage the Festival of the Horse Horse Games.
The Festival would like you to not only consider participating in this year’s Grande Parade but also the Horse Games on Saturday morning and afternoon and Sunday’s Horse Show. We have enclosed the registration forms for all 3 events this year to be returned by September 15, 2008. Participation in these events are strictly up to you and your schedule. Once we receive your registration, each event co-ordinator will send a confirmation letter. Please have your friends who would like to participate, call the Tourism Commission, Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m., 502-863-2547, for additional copies.
On Saturday, October 4, the Georgetown Woman’s Club will hold the annual Toyota Grande Parade featuring an all horse revue. The parade includes saddled horses with riders, drill teams and horse-drawn vehicles. This year, Chris McCarron, jockey and Scott Co. resident, will be the Grand Marshal. We will continue the “Parade of Breeds” as an educational part of the parade. The Parade co-ordinators will also send: a place to park your trailer, a line-up guide, judging criteria and miscellaneous information that will help make the parade a fun and safe event. If you have any questions, please call the Tourism Commission office.
All participants must be pre-registered for each event. Please include one copy of your negative coggins papers with your registration(s). State inspectors also want a health certificate. If you are out-of-state, the state agriculture department requires a 30-day health certificate or passport. Because of the unpredictable nature of a horse events, we have also included in this packet, a waiver of liability, exempting the Festival and its coordinators from any lawsuits resulting in injury. All participants must have this signed and included with their applications.
We have 2 years to prepare for the World Equestrian Games in 2010 and to make this the best “equine event” in the nation to impress our international visitors. If you have any suggestions regarding the 2010 Festival of the Horse weekend and its preparation, please contact the Tourism office.
Thank you for your support!
